Womensport & Recreation Tasmania was proud to support Abbie Genders from Friends’ Swimming and Annalea Reid from Badminton Tasmania as recipients of our women in coaching scholarships, delivered alongside the Tasmanian Institute of Sport (TIS).

The scholarship initiative is about more than financial support. It is an investment in women who are already contributing to sport in Tasmania and giving them greater opportunities to develop their coaching knowledge, confidence and experience. Increasing the visibility and representation of women in coaching is an important part of creating stronger and more inclusive sporting environments — and ensuring girls and young women can see women leading at every level of sport.

Abbie and Annalea bring experience and passion to two very different sporting environments, from the pool deck to the badminton court, and we’re excited to support them as they continue to develop their coaching pathways. Their commitment to their athletes and their own professional development reflects exactly what these scholarships aim to encourage.

We were delighted to recognise the scholarship recipients alongside Minister for Sport and Events Nick Duigan MP and the Tasmanian Institute of Sport, and to celebrate the growing community of women coaches across Tasmania.

We look forward to following Abbie and Annalea’s journeys and seeing the impact they continue to have within their sports and the athletes they support.
